NORFOLK CABBIE CAUGHT WITH £500K OF DRUGS ON A11 JAILED FOR FIVE YEARS SEVEN MONTHS

A cabbie found with more than £500,000 worth of drugs in his car on the A11 has been jailed. Anthony Clinton, 59, was stopped near Wymondham by

police who

discovered 21kg of ketamine. Norwich Crown Court heard following the stop, in the early hours of October 11 last year, Clinton’s home was also searched and further drugs were found. The searches resulted in cocaine, with a potential street value of £420,000, being found as well as class B drugs with a potential value of between £34,000 and £68,000. The street value of ketamine found in Clinton’s car and house was

between £640k and £960k Clinton, from Badersfield, was sentenced on 5 May, having ad- mitted a series of drugs offences. The offences included two counts of possession with intent to supply ketamine, two counts of possession with intent to supply cannabis and an offence

of

possession with intent to supply MMC, a class B drug. He also admitted two counts of possession of cocaine as well as possession of ecstasy.

Jailing Clinton for five years and seven months Judge Katharine Moore said the defendant had used his “veneer of respectability” as a taxi driver to give him the opportunity to supply drugs. Matthew McNiff, mitigating, said his client has no previous convictions and “became involved through others”. He said Clinton was put under surveillance and stopped by police with drugs found in his car and at home. Mr McNiff accepted there was a “substantial” amount of drugs found but insisted this was not an individual who was “living the high life” as a result of his involvement.

SIX YEARS’ JAIL FOR SOUTHAMPTON PH DRIVER WHO SEXUALLY ASSAULTED WOMAN IN CAR PARK

A Southampton private hire driver who sexually assaulted a woman after a night out has been jailed for more than six years. Hardeep Landa, 30, assaulted his 21-year-old victim in a car park in the early hours of 26 October 2022. Southampton Crown Court heard that the woman had been enjoying an night out and called a friend in Bournemouth just before 12.30am to suggest she would visit them but did not arrive. The woman’s friends had found her, with the assistance of security staff from The Edge nightclub, in the back of a licensed PHV in a car park on St. Mary’s Road in a state of undress. Her shoes were found in the front footwell of the vehicle, her mobile phone on the driver’s

seat. Landa’s shoes were in the back of the vehicle along- side his mobile phone. Her concerned friends then contacted police. The court also heard how Southampton council licensing officers worked with Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary to identify Landa as the licensed private hire driver. Council officers revoked his licence with immediate effect while police enquiries were

conducted.

Footage from a camera inside the vehicle captured the assault. It was subsequently provided by

the council as evidence – playing a critical role in securing a conviction against Landa. On Friday May 19, Landa was jailed for six years and eight months. He was also made subject to a lifetime Sexual Harm Prevention Order and placed on the Sex Offenders Register for an indefinite period. In a previous hearing on April 18, he pleaded guilty to one count of assault by penetration and two counts of sexual assault. In passing sentence, the judge described Landa’s actions and behaviour that evening as ‘both criminal and shocking’ and stated that ‘you took advantage of a very impaired young female and continued to assault her for your own sexual gratification’.
