NEWS...IN THE NEWS.. COUNCIL TRUCK GIVEN PARKING TICKET
AFTER BEING LEFT IN BATH TAXI RANK FOR THREE HOURS
A council worker had a very costly lunch recently after receiving a parking ticket for overstay- ing his welcome in a taxi rank. The truck was left in the temporary taxi rank on Grand Parade, which is being used while the normal taxi rank outside Bath Abbey in Orange Grove is out of use. A taxi driver con- tacted the Bath Chronicle to reveal the frustration of his fellow cabbies as the council’s truck had been parked in the same spot for at least three hours. Despite the truck
receiving a parking ticket, the council worker continued to leave it there and ignored pleas from the taxi drivers to move it. According to the taxi driver who got in contact, the coun- cil employee sat in his vehicle eating his lunch after receiving the parking ticket. “They have moved the rank because of construction work going on at the Abbey, but this van has parked at the front of the rank,” he said. “He was given a tick- et and the guy has been there for at least three hours

even though taxi drivers have asked him to move as he is taking up three spaces. “It’s not just the van as it also has a trailer on the back, which
makes it even worse. "It means several drivers are not able to get in the taxi rank and have to cir- cle round or park around the corner. “What I want to
know is who is going to pay for the ticket? Is it going to be the taxpayer who is left paying for it or will the driver be paying the fine? “The taxi rank has been moved two months early for work on the Abbey, which has since been put back to April, but that’s why the taxis are parked there.” It was later con- firmed that the driver of the high- ways maintenance vehicle will have to pay the parking fine. The taxi driver said he believed the council employee was parked there
while work is carried out on Parade Gar- dens.
“If he was just there for 15-20 minutes then it wouldn’t have been an issue, but the fact that he has been there for three hours makes it worse,” the taxi driv- er added.
Mmmm… OK, so this is only a temporary rank - but it is still a taxi rank, and no other vehicles should be parked or waiting there… espe- cially a council van with a trailer taking up three spaces, for three hours. Love the driver’s thumb- your-nose attitude (not) – Ed.
