Scott Bros in fir-stive spirit with Christmas tree drive

ECO-FRIENDLY folk on Teesside are once again invited to bring their wilting firs and spruces to Scott Bros for recycling now the festive period is over.

The trees will either be converted into fuel for a £750,000 biomass boiler, reducing reliance on harmful fossil fuels, or transformed into high quality compost for use in the DIY, gardening and landscaping sectors.

The family-run firm’s large-scale compost operation already collects large amounts of green waste from commercial customers, including local authorities.

Director David Scott Jr, who manages the

recycling operations, said: “It’s estimated that many thousands of tonnes of Christmas trees are incinerated, fly tipped or end up in landfill every year in this country.

“We are keen to repeat last year’s successful appeal by encouraging as many people as possible across Teesside to recycle their trees responsibly.”

Director Peter Scott said: “Scott Bros is passionate about recycling and increasing sustainability by finding more eco-friendly ways to re-use materials and Christmas trees are no exception.

“We intend to make it even easier for people to take advantage of the free

disposal of their unwanted trees once the festive period is over.”

People can leave their discarded Christmas trees in skips placed at Scott Bros' main depot and at its North Tees Recycle Centre, situated just off the A19, at Scott Business Park, Billingham.

Skips will also be placed at its South Tees Recycle Centre at Bolkow Industrial Estate, Middlesbrough, as well as Thornaby Sports & Leisure Club, Thornaby.

Christmas trees will be accepted for environmentally friendly disposal every day up until 6 January 2020. For further details call 0800 859 5301
