T’S been a busy month for RPG members. Following the annual CILIP lunch in central London, we have been discussing what we can do as individuals to help save the planet and how we can develop the reach of the CILIP network.

Climate and biodiversity emergency

Are you taking climate change seriously? What action is needed to meet the target of net zero by 2050? The UK will host the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow this month, from 31 October to 12 November. COP26 brings key players together to accelerate action towards the goals of the Paris Agreement and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The UK is committed to working with all countries and joining forces with civil society, companies and people on the frontline of climate change to inspire climate action ahead of COP26 (https://ukcop26.org).

We can all reduce our impact and help in the fight against climate change and we have included some suggestions in the diagram on the opposite page. We are declaring a Climate and Biodiversity Emergency. As a CILIP group we are inviting you to pledge to think global and act local:

l find out more about climate change: see World Wildlife Fund briefing: https://lnkd.in/deFc9234;

l get involved: learn from key decision makers and experts, keep up to date with the latest news and research: help to make our planet a better place;

l take action: we cannot sit back and wait for other people to make the first move. We certainly need politicians to match their actions to their words. Our own individual action locally and nationally can make a real difference.

information and knowledge professionals are part of a global community of practice. In the words of CILIP CEO, Nick Poole, “No one country or community has all the answers, but by working together we can advance the profession for the good of society”.

Working Internationally for Libraries is CILIP’s initiative to promote collaboration and partnership between public libraries in England and their international counterparts.

The project is funded by Arts Council England and will run in partnership with sector partners – Libraries Connected, British Library, Carnegie UK Trust, British Council, CILIP PMLG and CILIP ILIG.

In its first phase, the project focused on English public libraries to develop a programme of activities including a grants programme and travel bursaries, an international conference, a showcase of successful international projects, and online resources for collaboration.

Read about the work being done as part of this project and read the stories of collaboration in the #WorkingInternationally project report: https://lnkd.in/db55vKFD.
