 Hear Phonemes - Share 3 images or objects beginning with phoneme f (sh fower) say aloud, emphasis on initial letter. What can the children hear?

Practise 10mins


Children are all given a card containing a previously learned word. Children walk around to clapping or music, then stop and hands up, pair up. Children read each others cards then trade and the process repeats itself a few times. Teacher and TAs must try and hear children reading and correct misconceptions or errors.


 Segmenting for Spelling - Write a Caption Apply 5mins


Share an image of a cat and a fat rat and have children try to write a caption on whiteboards or paper. 


Sing ‘Five Little Speckled Frogs'. 

Draw ‘f’ in a variety of sizes and media, for example using chalk to draw on the ground. Make grapheme with playdough.  f' shape. 
