Hear Phonemes - Share 3 images or objects beginning with phoneme b (bbb letter.
Teach grapheme and alliteration caption ‘b
Lowercase formation caption: Top to bottom, up to the middle and round.
Formation of grapheme - Trace b in the air. Decoding –
Teach 10mins
to read. Model pressing the sound buttons to make the phoneme and model merging phonemes together to blend the words vowel).
Encoding –

Alien Word of the Day - bon. High Frequency Words -
Model action and caption as children practise forming the letter. Write ‘b Give out whiteboards or paper and practise writing the formation.
Blending for Reading - Bingo Practise 10mins
Give pairs of children a bingo board to share, with ‘b’ words using vowels they have already learnt, and read aloud words. Children can add a counter or mark their bingo board if they have the word.
Segmenting for Spelling - Write a Caption Apply 5mins
Share an image of a bun in a bag and have children try to write a caption on whiteboards or paper.
Sing ‘Baa, Baa, Black Sheep’. Read ‘Bog Baby’ Jeanne Willis.

Draw ‘b’ in a variety of sizes and media, for example using chalk to draw on the ground. Make grapheme with playdough. Make a Bog baby.
