Exeter Quayside
One of the most beautiful areas of the city, the Quayside is a place to relax, get active, dine al fresco and discover more about Exeter’s maritime history. The Custom House Visitor Centre offers a great introduction into the fascinating history of the area. Built in 1680, it’s the oldest custom house in Britain.
Bustling with antique and craft shops, the Quayside is a great place for independent shopping, with local craftspeople working out of warehouses and cellars built in the height of the industrial age. You’ll also
find an eclectic mix of waterside cafes, restaurants and pubs here, where you can relax and watch the world go by.
Walking and cycling routes lead along both sides of the river and canal, to explore the Riverside Valley Park. You can also get out on the water with a boat trip, or if you prefer to paddle at your own pace, hire a boat or paddleboard from Saddles & Paddles or AS Watersports to explore the calm waters of the historic Exeter Ship Canal.
