Topsham

The quaint historic estuary port of Topsham is just four miles from Exeter. It has a cosmopolitan atmosphere with an eclectic cluster of specialist shops and fine restaurants. Once a thriving port and shipbuilding centre, Topsham still retains a strong maritime flavour.

A hub for independents, you’ll find a vibrant mix of boutiques, galleries, gifts, antiques, fine wines and foods here. There is a great choice of historic pubs and award-winning restaurants with panoramic views of the Exe such as the Passage House Inn.

The narrow Goat Walk beside the Exe estuary offers wonderful views and is a great spot for birdwatching.

Topsham’s charming passenger ferry transports passengers (and bikes) across the Exe for riverside walks and pub lunches at The Turf. You can also take short or long cruises to discover the wildlife of the Exe estuary or to Exmouth’s sandy beaches.

How to get there:

Catch the train from Exeter Central for a 15-minute journey to Topsham, or there are regular local buses.
