DUCKLING REHAB


It is pr ime duckling season - and none more so than at Stapeley Grange, where we are inundated with them at the moment ! Our staff are currently


looking after 60 ducklings in one of our hospital rooms - most of the little creatures have been orphaned, others have fallen down drains or been injured in some way. Outside we have a further 300 (approx) in our outside pens and main pools. When a duckling is first

brought to Stapeley Grange, it is checked over by one of the team and admitted. Many are dehydrated, hypothermic or injured, and those that require veterinary attention are taken through to the vets. They are moved from our assessment area to one of two rooms within the hospital pending their size. All receive warmth, whether it be with a heat lamp from above or a heat mat below, as they have no mum to keep them warm. If the duckling arrives on its


own, we try to provide it with the company of another similar-sized youngster as soon as possible, as lonely ducklings do not do well.
