W e are now in August and by the looks of i t we are on the back end of summer and another crazy season. As of 9th August we had admi t ted 4,887 animals; of these 4,753 were wi ld, 116 were domest ic and 18 exot ic. I t looks l ike i t wi l l be our busiest year on record i f things cont inue as they have been.

The team wi l l soon be

spending more t ime releasing animals than deal ing wi th new admissions and whi lst some species are easy to release because they can be returned 'hard' and wi thout suppor t , other species l ike our ot ters and foxes require a soft release approach which is not only expensive for the Centre but t ime-consuming for the staff that lead wi th these species.

Nur tur ing our animals in

the hospi tal is always rewarding but nothing beats seeing a bird fly off into the distance or a mammal

fleeing off into the bushes. I t 's a momentary pleasure for al l those involved before they turn their at tent ion back on those st i l l residing at the Centre.

Our communi ty cont inues

to suppor t Stapeley at every ask, whether i t be to suppor t an event such as the Summer Fair that raised over £6,800 (see page 18), to suppor t us wi th food donat ions (Sainsburys) or one-off cash donat ions (Mor r isons, Sainsburys and Asda - page 20). Companies are also wi l l ing to help us wi th equipment too, whether i t be ar t i ficial grass (page 7), tools (page 20) or pond l iners (page 13). Every type of suppor t helps us to run the Centre and care for the animals.

Our volunteers are st i l l a

major factor for the Centre and I would l ike to take this oppor tuni ty to thank them al l for their t ime and hard work, we real ly could not do what we do wi thout them.

W e also have a new

exci t ing volunteer role that involves volunteers picking up casual t ies from vets across the Nor th W est . The programme is saving our field officers , money and energy (page 16). I f anyone is interested in volunteer ing at the Centre they can contact us via emai l : stapeley@rspca.org.uk

To date our Funds for Food campaign has raised £9,370 which is 19% of the target . W e can not do what we do wi thout financial suppor t so an suppor t through this campaign wi l l be appreciated. You can donate onl ine here: ht tps:/ /bi t .ly/2quBcTX
