The RSPCA is want ing to engage with over 1.5 million school children through their Compassionate Class programme by 2030 and Stapeley Grange is now support ing this excit ing new init iat ive by promot ing to schools in our area Using video and interact ive content , pupils aged 7-11 take part in various act ivit ies such as discussions, debates and creat ive assignments which inspire compassion for animals.


Children will consider what it means to be compassionate, understand the needs of dif ferent types of animals, and work collaborat ively to develop empathy skills for their school lives and beyond.


The f inal stage of the compet it ion involves pupils entering our 'Most Compassionate Class of the Year' award and a chance to win a visit to one of our animal centres.


In 2019 Heygarth Primary (pictured top right) and St Johns Primary School (pictured bot tom right) both visited Stapeley Grange as category winners.

The RSPCA Farm Animal Welfare Award has been presented to the student who produces the best farm animal welfare research project, since 2011. In 2019, Shannon McNiece, aged 22 from County Armagh, was presented with the RSPCA Farm and Animal Welfare award. Dr Harris, who presented the award said, ?Shannon achieved the highest mark (85%) in a farm animal welfare Honours Research Project for her project ?
