and upwind sailing, powerful aft for planing downwind in the strong stuff. Construction is over permanent

bulkheads and a ladder-frame backbone, with stringers. Most of the boat is 6mm sheet plywood, the exception being the radius area of the hull that is done with two layers of 3mm. The topside chine uses a stitch-&-glue joint and increases the power from the stern when pow- er-reaching. With the ballast bulb attached, rais-

ing/lowering of the daggerboard is by means of a tackle attached to the mast below the spreaders. It is basically a liſt- ing keel in this configuration and must be held down with a locking pin in case of capsize. When the bulb is not fitted, it operates like a normal daggerboard, no tackle required. A variation of this design was com-

missioned by a client in California, for handicapped sailors, named the DS15A. Unfortunately, my client succumbed to cancer before the build progressed to hull completion. As far as I know it remains at that stage, waiting to be finished. As with my other plywood designs,

these boats were drawn for amateur builders of moderate skill, with no need for hi-tech products and equipment. Te standard of detail on the drawings and the build methods used have proven good for relatively inexperienced boat- builders, to develop confidence in their own abilities and the boats that they create. Options for builders are plans only,

plans with full-size patterns, or plans and a CNC plywood kit. •SCA•
