Royal honours were bestowed on two key figures from the Education and Training Foundation (ETF) last month. Lynsi Hayward-Smith (left), who

served as an ETF Trustee and was head of adult learning and skills for Cambridgeshire County Council, received her CBE from the Duke of Cambridge on 2 May. Helen Pettifor (right), who was the ETF’s Director of Professional Standards and Workforce Development before retiring last year, received her OBE from the Prince of Wales two weeks later. David Russell, the ETF’s chief

executive, said: “Both Lynsi and Helen have made huge contributions to the success of further education in our country, so these honours are extremely well-deserved.” Also enjoying Royal proceedings

in May was Julie Warden, a member of the Society for Education and Training’s (SET) Practitioner Advisory Group, Local Network Group Leader and Advanced Teacher Status (ATS) Mentor – she attended a garden party at Buckingham Palace.

By Staff Reporter Sector preparations for T Levels next year will be boosted by new regional Knowledge Hubs established by the Education and Training Foundation (ETF). The hubs – covering the North, the Midlands and the South (East and West) – will ensure that teachers and trainers have the teaching skills, subject knowledge and confidence needed to deliver a high-quality T Level programme from 2020.

Established as part of the

ETF’s T Level Professional Development (TLPD), and funded by the Department for Education, the hubs will support teacher development networks and collaborative activities focused on T Level routes, pathways

and subject-specific themes. Employers and professional bodies will also be engaged to ensure that learning and practice reflects industry needs. The three hubs will be delivered by the Skills and Education Group, Association of Colleges, and Creative Education. The hubs will also provide an

opportunity for T Level providers to participate in sector-led, collaborative action research projects, known as Teacher Regional Improvement Projects (TRIPs).

The TRIPs will further support teachers to prepare their teaching practice for T Levels and, ultimately, ensure that learners undertaking T Levels develop the knowledge, skills, behaviours

and occupational competencies required. Grants of £45,000 will be awarded to 50 collaborative TRIPs across England. Further information about the

Knowledge Hubs is available from the co-ordinating organisations: For providers in the North East, North West, Yorkshire and Humberside (Region 1), contact Mo Gallagher at the Association of Colleges: projects@aoc.co.uk For providers in the West Midlands, East Midlands, East of England and London (Region 2), contact Jon Poxon at the Skills and Education Group: jonathanp@ skillsedugroup.co.uk For providers in the South East

and South West (Region 3), contact Tom Hesmondhalgh at Creative Education: tom.hesmondhalgh@ creativeeducation.co.uk The ETF is the national workforce development body for further education and training and the DfE appointed it as the body to deliver T Level Professional Development.
