T e ARCA helped raise funds for travel ex- penses as did others. “Skip and Vickie Crawford and Joe and Blythe Davies also cosponsored my trip and are big mentors,” Poretz stated, also crediting his girlfriend Sabrina Moore with his racing success. “She is very crucial in keep- ing me in line for the race season and helps me make critical choices with racing.” And of course, Poretz said the whole expe-


rience would not have been possible if Yova- novich had not chosen him for the program. “Traveling overseas has really helped my riding. One hundred percent,” said Poretz. “Any extra time racing helps and the experience has really helped me to work towards becoming a more effi cient rider.”

T e TAKE2 T oroughbred League is a mem- ber-based initiative that is part of the TAKE2 Second Career T oroughbred Program, a na- tional program giving awards for hunters and jumpers. For the 2016 season, Maryland’s own Scotty Sherman won the Hunter award with Feather, earning over 3,000 points more than the second place winner, Cooperstown, owned by fellow Marylander Ken Krome. Miranda Scott and Win Lewis teamed up to place sev- enth in the Jumper standings with Mr. Pike.
