Rosecroft Rebounds


For the fi rst time in al- most 10 years, Rosecroft Raceway was able to off er a six fi gure purse, thanks to slots. On Tuesday, Novem- ber 22, the 67-year-old harness racetrack hosted the $100,000 Potomac Pace, an invitational with 8 pacing Standardbreds. All Bets Off not only won the race with a perfect trip, he equaled the Rosecroft’s track record for a mile with 1:48.2.

$2.2 Million Winter Purses at Laurel


Laurel Park’s 56-day winter meet opens Sun- day January 1 and runs through May 7. T e schedule includes 22 stakes with $2.2 mil- lion in purses. Congress Passes Forest Service Trail Stewardship Bill


On November 17, the Senate passed the Na- tional Forest Service Trail Stewardship Act of 2015 (H.R.845 S.1110), which was passed by

T is bill will help improve trail maintenance without the need for additional funding as it specifi cally directs the Forest Service to develop a strategy to more eff ectively utilize volunteers and partners to assist in maintaining national forest trails. T e bill will also address a liability issue that has discouraged some national for- ests from utilizing volunteers and partner or- ganizations to help perform trail maintenance. Additionally, the bill provides outfi tters and guides the ability to perform trail maintenance activities in lieu of permit fees. In November, the Federation Equestre In- ternationale voted to support a change in the format of the Olympic and Paralym- pic Games in Tokyo 2020. T ese changes must still be approved by the International Olympic Committee. Under the proposed new rules, the number of athletes per na- tion team will drop to three, and there will be no “drop score.” Explained the FEI president, Ingmar De Vos, “We need to increase the number of participating na- tions at the Olympic Games, but within our existing quota of 200.” For detailed changes to each discipline, please see equi- ery.com.
