Maryland Will Miss... Joseph Upton Zentgraf of Westminster died


on October 12 at the age of 79. He was born in Carrollton and graduated from Westminster High School in 1962. He then served in the National Guard while attending Washington Bible College from which he graduated in 1970. Zentgraf was a charter member of the Carroll County Equestrian Council where he held positions of president, vice president and board member. He led trail rides, organized trail work days and off ered stream crossing clinics as well as assisting with CCEC promo- tional events held at the Horse World Expo in Maryland and the 4-H Horse Fair at the Car- roll County Ag Center. Zentgraf was inducted into the Carroll County Recreation and Parks Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2019.


Neil Arthur Houck of Hampstead died on October 15 at the age of 75. Born in Hanover, PA, Houck graduated from North Carroll


High School in 1966 before serving in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper during the Vietnam War. After the war, Houck was a self-employed contractor who loved fox hunting and was a former MFH of Carrollton Hounds. He also hunted with several other clubs in Maryland and Pennsylvania.


Ruth Leonard Davis Perdue of Salisbury


died on November 5 at the age of 87. Perdue graduated from Wicomico High School in 1953 and enrolled in Salisbury State Teach- ers College (Salisbury University), majoring in Elementary Education. While attending col- lege, she enjoyed playing basketball, softball, and fi eld hockey. She married Oren Perdue in 1956. Together they raised seven children. T e Perdues were active members of the Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association and orga- nized the annual Mt. Hermon Plow Days in Salisbury. After being a farmer’s wife for 15

Roger Lynn Holcomb of Taneytown died


on November 7 at the age of 73. Holcomb was born in Greene, New York. Holcomb was a horse trainer who specialized in reining horses. He was a member of the National Rein- ing Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. In his early years, Holcomb worked and trained at Willow Brook Farms. Later in life, he worked at Brian Bell’s in North Carolina. He also had his own training opera- tions in Maryland. Holcomb also served in the US Marine Corp and was a Vietnam Veteran.
