Q&A WITH THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Imagine senior living in 2030: What could be some of the major changes?

“I can see increased technology use as a major change in senior living by 2030. New technology is becoming indispensable in our own homes—streaming services, voice- activated home controls, video to connect with loved ones, etc. I see future uses for technology for monitoring residents in a dignifi ed way, and enhanced access to health care providers through telehealth.”

Becky Willett, CDAL Executive Director Life Care Services

Gable Pines at Vadnais Heights

“Senior living without walls: An intentional model that would allow more seniors to stay in a private home with as-needed private-duty care. Think CCRC, but with a menu of services that can be provided in a private home, then transitioned to a physical assisted living or memory care setting. Intentionally planned intergenerational communities would allow for a broader opportunity for all ages, with volunteer services, employment for seniors, and higher independence.”

Tammy DeCaro, CDAL Executive Director The Arbor Company

Barrington Terrace of Naples

“Savvy seniors will desire an active lifestyle. Expect seniors to seek out communities off ering short-term living opportunities in other locales, while maintaining a small home-base residence. Maybe a resident wants to spend six months in Florida, three months in Texas, and three months in New York. The ability to pack a bag and go, knowing your medical information can follow electronically, sounds appealing. Premium concierge services will coordinate all necessities. Sign me up!”

Gary Brown, CDAL Executive Director Five Star Senior Living Morningside of Sumter

“I believe buildings will be geared toward diff erent types of personalities and lifestyles, so people have more choice over the environment in which they live. For example, a community might specialize in people who love music, so the rooms, activities, and even food settings are geared toward enjoying music.”
