Since the recession lows were made in March 2009, there have been a multitude of U.S. and overseas “risk- off” events that, at the time, caused many analysts and traders to warn of the disastrous effects they would have on global stock markets and on the world economy. Just to name a few, there was the series of euro zone financial crises, fears of a Chinese economic slowdown, Brexit, North American trade negotiations, deteriorating U.S.-China relations, tensions between Ukraine and Russia, social unrest in the Catalonia region of Spain, in Venezuela and in the Mideast, along with ramped up tensions on the Korean peninsula.
