The school was established in 2002 by Corinne and Alain Rouleau. Lunches and outings, such as mountain hikes, walks and visits to places of interest, allow students to continue speaking French throughout the day.

This US network of French language schools has over 100 locations, typically teaching around 25,000 students every year. There are on-site and online classes for all ages. “Classes emphasise
communication in an immersive environment, for the fastest results,” say the organisers. “The classes feature highly qualified teachers, often with native-level fluency and professional training from French institutions and from other Francophone countries.” AF offers themed classes, informal conversation groups, book discussion clubs, film events, and even classes with specific objectives, such as French for business.
