SECURITY ISSUE 66 - WINTER 2017 F
or our winter edition, we invited the Chairman of the City of London Crime Prevention Association, Don Randall MBE, to write our introduction
and to include a seasonal message to our readers. Eugene O’Mahony Executive Editor
A
s this year’s festive season approaches, it is with disappointment, but perhaps not unexpected, that we have to again reflect on a year of
tragedy in respect of both natural and criminal activities. Our hearts and minds go out to the victims and families of Grenfell Tower and the various terrorist attacks across our country.
On a positive note, the work of the UK National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters (NTCPHQ) has been commendable, as has that of all our blue light services. As an association, we are proud to see the initiatives we have supported, such as Project Griffin and CSSC, being part of the UK’s response programme. We believe the balance of our meetings and City Security magazine meets the needs of all these threats and realities.
There is increasing evidence of improved partnership working nationally, in particular the adoption of Servator and React, with more to come. The launch of the National Business Crime Reduction Hub is one such new partnership initiative. Following discussions with senior law enforcement colleagues, I am confident that the extension of communication and partnership with business and the private sector is the only way we can move forward.
I would like to think that irrespective of the political
dimension of Brexit, and other potentially challenging states of affairs, such as those in Spain and elsewhere, that the safety and security of all communities, national, European and international, will be a priority and will not be impacted or restricted by reforms in legislation to existing cooperation. To do this would only fuel the terrorist and cause greater harm to our communities – safety and security of all communities has to override any political dimension.
On behalf of the Association Committee, may I wish you a peaceful and restful Christmas period with those you love and care for.
Don Randall, MBE, CSyP Chairman, City of London Crime Prevention Association
