As global security issues take the headlines, we ask, what’s next?
This year we have had an amazing selection of high quality articles published in the magazine and on our website giving you added security know-how to help prevent crime, which, at end of the day, is what our magazine is all about.
You can check out who made our top 12 finalists on page 31 and read the articles in full from our website.

City Security
Keeping it Green At City Security magazine we care about how our magazines are printed and the paper they are printed on.
Our printers are certified members of the World Land Trust and the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The World Land Trust initiative invests in preserving environmentally important forests which are under imminent threat of deforestation through carbon balancing. Carbon balancing is a scheme that invests
money in offsetting the amount of CO2 produced during the manufacturing process. The lead patron of this scheme is Sir David Attenborough. The FSC is an international non- profit organisation dedicated to promoting responsible forestry. We believe in making a real statement and a positive contribution towards saving our planet by reducing carbon impact.

A
warm welcome to the winter 2025 edition of our magazine. This issue reflects a widely held view in the sector: security is largely about people caring for each other in a professional way. It depends on good communication, positive relationships and real commitment behind every policy, procedure and action.
We aim to support this approach by sharing updates, ideas and advice that are useful to everyone working in security, whatever your role.
In this edition, there is a clear thread of collaboration – between the police, local partners and the private sector – and many of our articles show how those connections turn ideas into action. There is also a consistent focus on the impact of global events and emerging threats, and how those working in security must continually adapt their response.
AI is never far from any security conversation at the moment, and that is true here too. We look at the positive impact it can have on security operations and technology, while also airing some of the concerns many of us share, including what it may mean for existing roles, future skills and the availability of jobs in the sector. Martyn’s Law is another recurring topic, with several contributors offering food for thought and practical ideas on how organisations can start preparing for its implementation now.
You will also find articles tackling wider concerns for the sector: how to build sustainability into everything we do; how recruitment is changing for both recruiters and candidates; and updates on keeping people safe this Christmas and throughout the year, including a feature on Operation Reframe from the City of London Police and an update from Stamp Out Spiking – both packed with insights you can take back to your teams, friends and colleagues.
