Communications (CSSC) Fundraiser


The three charities represented briefly explained their work.


T


he CSSC Annual Fundraising dinner took place in November 2019 at Leonardo Royal London City Hotel, raising more than £20,000 for the three nominated charities.


The event was attended by over 215 people, representing 25 different organisations, with VIP guests including Chief Constable of the British Transport Police, Paul Crowther OBE; Commissioner of the City of London Police, Ian Dyson QPM; Deputy Assistant Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, Lucy D’Orsi; and Town Clerk and Chief Executive of the City of London Corporation, John Barradell OBE.


Don Randall MBE opened the event, thanking everyone for their support for CSSC. He highlighted its achievements this year, including the completion of the national roll- out and the creation of a more sustainable financing model. He overviewed the work of the individual regions and the commendable partnership and support in each area.


Don thanked the sponsors of the event ICTS UK and Ireland, International Security Expo, Security Institute and Ward Security. He also thanked those organisations which provided raffle and auction prizes, including Secure Ground Transportation, TrackTik, Harry’s Bar, Fullers and CIS Security. And lastly, Don thanked Irona Wilson and Graham Tucker for all their hard work in organising such an enjoyable and successful event.


Ok Our Kids’ Tony Churchill and Lynn Bartley introduced Ok Our Kids, the


independent Community Interest Company (CIC)


with the sole aim of educating, informing and empowering children to stay safe at home, in the community and at school. With an initial focus on children from the age of 3 (pre- school) to 11 (Junior School) this fledgling CIC is now expanding to work with secondary school pupils as they transition into adulthood. PTSD Resolution Patrick Rea explained how PTSD Resolution provides free mental


health support to Forces’ Veterans, Reservists and their families, and works with security industry employers to resolve the effects of trauma. For more information visit www.ptsdresolution.org


Volunteer Police Cadets’ Tim Mann overviewed the work of the Volunteer Police Cadets,


the nationally recognised police uniformed youth group throughout the UK. The purpose of the VPC is not to recruit police officers of the future, but to encourage the spirit of adventure and good citizenship amongst its members. For more information visit vpc.police.uk

CSSC East Midland - Business Resilience Seminar 4th November 2019

ecurity professionals gathered again to attend this year’s East Midlands CSSC seminar held at the headquarters of CSSC member, Capital One in Nottingham. The theme: Business Resilience.


Andrew Nicholls, Chairman of the East Midlands CSSC, hosted a number of guest speakers: Deputy Chief Constable Chris Haward, Commander of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit; Cyber Protect and Prevent Officer Kirsty Jackson; and Security Consultant Charles Swanson CSyP, alongside His Honour Jonathan Teare, High Sheriff of Nottingham, attending to present this year’s ISL award. The event was also supported by three Police Cadets from Nottinghamshire Police.


The objective of the seminar: to outline some of the most topical business security threats and provide advice on developing your business continuity planning, an update on the initiatives being undertaken by the EM CSSC and the opportunity to network with fellow security professionals.


The event was well attended with over 70 people gathering to listen to Deputy Chief Constable Chris Haward provide his support and backing to the work being undertaken by the EM CSSC. Kirsty Jackson was able to offer some valuable insight into the hidden cyber threats faced daily by businesses of all sizes and Charles Swanson concluded the presentations by talking about how we evaluate and measure risk.
