Usborne Books author visits
Make stories come to life with a little help from Usborne Books, which arranges engaging events to support teachers and parents in promoting reading for pleasure as well as boosting literacy levels. From book fairs and sponsored reading competitions to themed assemblies and story time sessions, Usborne events are free to hold and are organised by your schools’ Independent Usborne Partner. Schools and PTAs can earn up to 60% in free books of their choice from hosting an event, as well as access free resources to support learning. The events are bespoke and can be adapted and created to suit each individual school’s needs. Schools can also spark a lifelong love of reading with a visit
from an author. With award-winning writers such as Serena Patel, Tim Tilley and Sophie Anderson to choose from, Usborne’s author events are interactive and full of fun. With every author event, there is an opportunity for your school to earn free books for your library or classrooms. Lianne Cook, Branston Church of England Infant School, Lincolnshire ‘As part of our school’s big push on reading for pleasure, and with Usborne’s support, we ran a very successful sponsored readathon. Our library was transformed and we were able to purchase a significant number of books. The extra commission raised also meant that we could continue our literacy focus and were able to gift a copy of Unipiggle by Hannah Shaw to
every child in the school. Our Usborne Partner, Sarah Singleton, arranged for signed stickers for each book too. After a period in lockdown, Usborne arranged for the author to read her book to the children which was live-streamed to each class. This worked beautifully as pupils could remain in their class bubbles yet still get to experience a real-life author reading their story, which the children loved! We have also purchased 45 lovely, illustrated Bibles for our Year 2 leavers. The profile of reading has been raised and our children now have access to a whole variety of beautiful new books.’
