‘Our Legoland trip will help redevelop the playground’

Inset days can be tricky for parents, but our Legoland fundraiser made everyone smile. Families and friends were excited to meet up, and the children had fun making plans to try out the rides together. One of our committee members

suggested we book a group trip to Legoland after hearing about another school’s success. We placed an initial order with Legoland to secure the date, and we needed to sell at least 50 tickets at £15 each to qualify for the group rate. We decided to charge £20 a ticket and advertised the day on social media, class WhatsApp groups and emails sent by the school. Parents could pay using our SumUp machine or by cash through the school office. We sold 106 tickets. Children of all

ages came, but more from the lower years. The most time-consuming part was emailing the tickets, which took me over two hours.

Families made their own way to

Legoland, which is around an hour and 40 minutes from the school. Although the date we chose was an inset day for our school, it was still half-term for some other schools, and the park was fully booked. Some rides had long queues with over an hour’s wait. But the children enjoyed bumping into their classmates all over the park, and there was a great sense of community. We are looking into a project to

develop part of our playground, which we will fund in three stages due to the high cost. We hope to put the £530 we raised towards this. We would love to get everyone

together at Legoland again, but next time we will choose a date when the park is less crowded. Natalie Grose, co-chair, St John’s CE Primary School PTA, Crowborough, East Sussex (202 pupils)

for grammar In the lead-up to Christmas, Santa made a special appearance to host three events for The Punctuation Show. The virtual classroom, entitled The Punctuation Show Ho Ho!, was filled with festive cheer as pupils from Year 2, Year 6 and Year 7 joined in with songs, sketches, games and interactive quizzes designed to improve their punctuation skills. ‘Santa told us he’s a big fan of good punctuation because he reads so many letters,’ said Barrie McDermid, host of The Punctuation Show. The children left the show with

greater confidence in their language skills and a newfound excitement for grammar and punctuation. Parents and teachers have since commented on the improvement in the children’s language abilities and their increased enthusiasm for writing. McDermid is grateful to Santa for making this unique educational experience possible and to all the schools who supported their students throughout this adventure. The Punctuation Show is offering

further free shows and learning opportunities in 2024. Visit thepunctuationshow.com or email barrie@thepunctuationshow.com for more information and to sign up.
