’ve spent too long staring at a screen over Christmas. But I don’t mean playing EA Sports FC 24 (whatever that is) on the Xbox; it’s the smart

meter that’s got me hooked. How much energy have we used? Could we be more effi cient? My article on how PTAs can take action on climate change (p14) starts by highlighting that children don’t believe that adults are doing enough to tackle the climate crisis. That’s not just my opinion; a

2021 survey conducted by Sustrans found that over 60% of children think us grown-ups should be doing more. I wasn’t sure what PTAs could do to make a difference, considering the

size of the problem. But I’m pleased to report an abundance of uplifting and optimistic work. Turn to p11 for inspiration from real PTA projects. If, like me, you have a child in Year 6, your attention will be fi rmly

fi xed on SATS leavers’ hoodies and events. I’m lucky enough to be part of something very special that, although not run by the PTA, is very much supported by them. Read about the Moving On Parade on p39. It’s easy to underestimate how quickly the summer fair comes around.

To secure the most popular attractions, it’s important to start planning early. Zena Alli has compiled a list of the most exciting star attractions to help you build anticipation. Prompt booking required! If you’re looking for a unique event for 2024, why not add some

culture? From jazz to opera to a Spanish fi esta, PTAs have tried it all. One even invited Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to their midsummer ball! Find out what happened on p34. We love hearing about your success stories
