‘Make a noise’ about bullying
this November When they witness bullying, many people stay silent, failing to acknowledge the harm it causes. Which is why, after speaking to teachers and students, the Anti-Bullying Alliance chose ‘Make a noise’ about bullying as the theme of this year’s Anti-Bullying Week (13-17 November). Anti-Bullying Week
reminds us all that we can take action to end bullying, whether at school, home, in the community or online. Schools can download
Allotment’s bumper harvest
Children at South Wilford School in Nottingham are looking forward to the fruits of their success this autumn after the PTA’s Project Green Fingers breathed new life into the school allotment. Pupils can now grow a variety of plants, fruits and vegetables throughout the year. In February, a team of enthusiastic
parents and helpers braved the bad weather and brought their tools to the school for a weekend of hard work. As well as building raised beds, they installed a mud-free zone for the children and created accessible paths. They also planted a small fruit orchard, improved the potting areas and made additional seating. Pupils cheered as headteacher Natalie Aldridge cut the ribbon on the launch day in March.
Inspired by their green haven, each
class devised exciting projects for the spring and summer terms, including cultivating leafy greens for cookery classes and a sunfl ower growing competition. Home-grown strawberries went down exceptionally well during the summer. PTA chair Shelley Pasiak said: ‘The
children love being outside on the allotment. It provides them with invaluable hands-on experiences and the opportunity to develop essential life skills.’

Andy Day and his band Andy and the Odd Socks will release a song to mark the start of the campaign on Odd Socks Day (Monday 13 November) when children are encouraged to wear odd socks to school to show we’re all unique and should respect each other’s
individuality. anti-bullying
