Grants for schools

To coincide with this issue’s focus on the environment and the transformative power of learning beyond the classroom, we’ve profiled funding opportunities for outdoor activities and adventures. Grants are subject to review, so do check the FundEd grants database.

Sea-Changers Small grants up to £500 and main grants from £500 to £2,500

Check the website, as deadlines vary

The foundation’s focus is to encourage young people to learn from the land through hands-on outdoor opportunities. Its Outdoor Essentials grant offers funding for school grounds improvements, transportation costs for taking pupils to outdoor learning venues, or outdoor clothing to enable learning outdoors. Grants are sometimes geographically limited, so check the website at ernestcooktrust.org.uk

Main grant deadlines are 31 March and 30 September. Small grant applications are reviewed regularly

Projects that increase the number of people taking action for marine conservation are eligible for funding. This could include direct action, such as carrying out a beach-cleaning project, education, outreach or research initiatives. Applications from charities and schools will be considered. For application forms and further information go to sea-changers.org.uk/how-to-apply

The Get Out! Grant from Evolve Advice offers UK primary and secondary schools funding to help get pupils learning outdoors. The grant money can be used to purchase equipment, for specialist training, travel or other resources related to outdoor learning. For more information and how to apply, visit evolveadvice.co.uk/grants

Hubbub and Starbucks

Up to £6,000

Check website for updates

Hubbub and Starbucks have collaborated to offer the Nature Hubs Fund, a grant stream for schools and community groups. Projects must relate to one or more of the following themes: increasing access to nature, bringing people together, upskilling the community and/or building climate resilience. They must take place within 5km of a Starbucks branch. Further details can be found at hubbub.org.uk/ the-nature-hubs-fund

PGL Breakthrough Fund

50% of the cost of a PGL outdoor adventure (excluding transport)

Apply early as funded spaces are limited
