Payments Assemble
At the arena, a space in the even dedicated to Fintech-related entertainment events, we saw a quiz in which contestants had to find out which were the hottest topics in the industry. Both the audience and contestants questioned with surprise the inclusion of P2P and Mobile instead of Payments, and the surprise wasn’t any less when Blockchain came out on top – one of the very sparse apparitions of blockchain during the event. A contestant remarked that blockchain
is old news, and a gesture of agreement flashed the presenter’s face. Still, those asked in the survey seem to think otherwise. Only a few months ago, the SWIFT London Business Forum hosted plenty of talk about blockchain. Things are moving fast.
In regards to payments, having incorporated mobile channels, in many ways they have been pulling the weight of the regulation changes taking place this year. Open platform and standardised APIs are topics of discussion, but although this is ideal in the world of cross-border transactions, several commenters agreed when talking to IBS on the fact that regulators prove to be too fickle for it to be a realistic possibility.
