LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

Session is finally over. Here is a brief re-cap of things of interest to us.

edicaid expansion/reform did not happen again this year. There seems to be a bit of support

growing on the Republican side in both the House and Senate that may change things next year. As for our small piece of the big pie, we got as close as we possibly could have. We probably would have been included had expansion crossed the finish line. Our language was included on HB 1483 which died on the House calendar and SB 524 which had already been voted “do pass” in a House committee, but died in the House Rules Committee. We also had it ready for four other potential vehicles, two of which were House bills on the Senate calendar. Unfortunately all died the last week of session.

Other Bills of interest:

DEAD ---- HB 1060 licensing radiologist assistants/technician; HB 1145 any willing provider; HB 1173 tort reform; HB 1645 changing MO lien law; HB 1824 changing requirements for the Division of Professional Registration

PASSED-- Nothing of major interest. It was a quiet year for Health Care and Health Insurance issues other than Medicaid. Remember, the process is basically designed to kill

bills. Of the nearly 2,000 bills introduced this session, less than 10% passed and a large portion of those were budget bills and consent bills. We will begin building our 2015 legislative agenda

very soon and will present it to the Board at the conven- tion in August.
