44% (-13%) of those who visited a science center in 2016 did so while traveling more than 50 miles from home.


23% (+7%) of Science Center guests used a 2016 science center membership on their most recent visit. 2% (-1%) of respondents noted that a science center was their most recent attraction visit.


66% (-0.8%) of respondents noted that this was not their first time visiting this particular science center.


During their most recent attraction visit, 40% (-16%) of respondents visited a science center as a family with children under the age of 18.


54% (-19%) of those who visited a science center in 2016 were likely to recommend it to family and friends.


14% (+11%) of those who visited a science center in 2016 were likely to discourage family and friends from going. 86% (+5%) of those who visited a science center in 2016 also took a vacation.


For those respondents whose most recent attraction visit was a science center, science centers scored an average 4.43 (-0.16) on a five-point scale on overall satisfaction.


Of those guests who visited a science center, 81% also visited a Museum, 68% visited a Historic Landmark, and 63% visited a Zoo/Animal Attraction.


2017 FORECAST


On a five-point scale, science centers scored an average of 3.9 (-0.27) when respondents were asked their likelihood to return to the same science center in 2017.


Based on the responses of all survey participants, science center attendance is forecasted to rise by 0.4% (-1%) in 2017.


45% (-7%) of respondents who visited a science center in 2016 expect the US economy to improve in 2017.
