SOAK UP THE VIEWS ON THE PANORAMA ROUTE MPUMALANGA Aptly named, the Panorama Route includes the Blyde River Canyon as well as the swirling geological shapes of Bourke’s Luck Potholes. Further along, God’s Window looks out across the Drakensberg Escarpment, while the spray from Lisbon Falls creates rainbows in the air. DON’T MISS: The stunning sunrise at Blyde River Canyon (see page 28).
SEE THE BIG FIVE IN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK MPUMALANGA/LIMPOPO South Africa’s most famous wildlife hotspot spans two provinces, and is home to the Big Five (lion, leopard, buffalo, elephant and rhino), as well as cheetahs, giraffes and hippos. DON’T MISS: Having sundowners after a game drive and watching the African sun sink below the thorn trees while reflecting on the day’s sightings (see page 36).

MEET GIANTS AT ADDO ELEPHANT NATIONAL PARK EASTERN CAPE Founded in 1931 as a safe house for the 11 remaining elephants in the area, the park now houses more than 600 of the majestic animals today. Getting close to one of these gentle giants is incredible. DON’T MISS: Head out on a hot day to a local water hole, where you might just spot a herd of elephants having a splash and stomping party.
