10 top tips for producing successful, thriving children
Ideas from education consultancy business Everything Education
Nelson Mandela said: “No country can really develop unless its citi- zens are educated. Education is the most powerful weapon, which you can use to change the world. Educa- tion is a great engine of personal development.” Education is important — whether
it’s an academic education or a crea- tive one, it’s needed. Everything Education, an education
consultancy fi rm, believes a successful child is one that’s authentically them- selves and knows who they are and where they’re going. T is comes from the careful guidance of a parent who not only believes in the child, but believes in what they off er and where they’re going.
Produce successful, thriving
children is in 10 easy steps, from Everything Education 1. Always be there for your child. Show them that everything may be
falling apart around them;
however, you’re the constant in their life. You’re the one who always believes in them no matter what.
2. Model the behaviour you want from your kids. Remember that children do what we do and not what we say. If a child is constantly saying shut up to you, ask yourself where they learnt it from.
3. Learn to praise your child for just being them and not for the things they’ve achieved. T ey were given to you with unique gifts and talents. Your role as a parent is to unearth that gift and help them blossom in it.
4. Understand your child’s learning style. When you do this, fi nding the right school is a lot less stressful as you place them in an environment where they can fl y and thrive and not just survive.
5. Teach your children responsi- bility from an early age. Let them help around the house and make choices that empower them. By doing this, you help build your child’s self-esteem as well as their confi dence.
6. It's very important to have disci- pline as part of your parenting; however, this has to be positive in order for it to be eff ective. Disci- pline can’t come from being puni- tive. Discipline is the derivative of disciple. You must always lead your children and show them the right way.
7. Teach your children how to be empathetic. Children who learn the skill of empathy end up being eff ective not just in their school, but in their community and at work too.
8. Teach them a work ethic; being born with a gift doesn’t mean that you’ll be great. Constantly working at the gift and learning to get better is a good skill to have.
9. Embracing challenges and taking risks, teaching children to try even when they feel they can’t is a brilliant tool in self-development.
10. Lessons can be learnt from failure. Let children fail in a safe environ- ment and that by failing, they learn great things about themselves.
Everything Education believes success isn’t just academic, but about personal goals as well. T is is what we need to teach children. A low grade isn’t the defi nition of who they are. T e learning process is much more important, as is where they’re going and where they end up.
