Is your company looking to recruit staff from outside the UK? OTB Legal can help

As the labour market has become increasingly competitive, many employers are looking outside the UK for new sources of talent to fi ll key roles

Schedule a

For most companies, this means sponsoring overseas candidates to apply for a ‘skilled worker’ visa. Businesses wishing to use this

option must obtain a sponsor licence from the Home Offi ce. Would-be sponsors must provide evidence to show that they need the licence, and also to demonstrate that they’re able to meet their additional responsibilities. A sponsor licence lasts for four years and allows a business to sponsor multiple skilled workers. Any role fi lled by a skilled worker

must meet certain criteria: • The role must be considered ‘skilled’ by the Home Offi ce.

• The business must also pay a salary that meets the minimum salary dictated by the immigration rules.

The range of jobs that potentially qualify for sponsorship has expanded signifi cantly since Brexit. However, there are still many roles that don’t qualify, particularly those deemed ‘low skilled’.

OTB Legal can provide advice on all aspects of business immigration to the UK, from applying for the sponsor licence to sponsoring workers

A business with a sponsor licence

also takes on additional duties on behalf of the Home Offi ce. These duties include: • Keeping extra records, • Reporting certain events to the Home Offi ce, and

• Complying with immigration laws.

These duties are set out in detail in published guidance that runs to hundreds of pages — and the guidance is updated regularly. All this makes compliance a major bureaucratic undertaking. OTB Legal can provide advice on all aspects of business immigration

to the UK, from applying for the sponsor licence to sponsoring workers and advising on a range of complicated compliance issues. OTB Legal uses a clear, transparent

Is menopause working for you?

Right now, it feels like menopause is everywhere, from face creams and shampoos to celebrities’ stories and support, mandates, pledges and HRT shortages

Menopause is becoming mainstream, but is this making a diff erence in our working lives? The Fawcett Society’s recent

research revealed that one in 10 women leſt their organisation due to menopausal symptoms and 20% changed roles due to the menopause. The real question is whether this exodus could have been prevented

IRRITABILITY

if those women had received the appropriate help and support. Every resignation represents a loss of talent and expertise — and then there’s the fi nancial cost of replacement. With 51% of the population

directly experiencing menopause and 49% indirectly experiencing it, it’s blatantly obvious that menopause is everyone’s business.

DRY EYES Talking Menopause, co-founded

in 2017 by Sarah Davies and Lynda Bailey, knows this only too well. It works with organisations to educate them and raise awareness of menopause to ensure employees at all levels have the right information and access to support. This should not be based on luck, with some managers listening or

being more approachable; everyone should be confi dent to have that menopause conversation if they need to, including partners of those suff ering. Talking Menopause’s employee

survey is the place to start. This provides real-time information about menopause and whether employees are feeling and supported or not. Menopause is a unique experience

and shouldn’t be ignored. Organisations are unique and cultures vary. What might be an appropriate, reasonable adjustment for a front-line emergency service worker may not be the same for a hybrid worker or school teacher for example.

A combination of awareness

sessions for all employees, managers and senior leaders ensures everyone has the right level of information and direction on support. Following this up with training

for menopause champions cements the learning and guarantees the conversation and support both develops and continues. Why not make 2023 the year

that your organisation becomes menopause confi dent?
