Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show Held over the August Bank Holiday weekend, the Edenbridge & Oxted Agricultural Show celebrates the country way of life with equestrian competitions, gun dog demonstrations, a horticultural marquee and a display of classic cars. You can also get fishing tutorials, test your skills with a bow and arrow, or, if you’re after something a little different, there are blacksmith and ironwork demonstrations. 26-27 August.

Leicestershire County Show One of the UK’s top rural extravaganzas. Alongside displays of livestock, horses and hunting hounds, a fun-filled family schedule includes a vintage car show, equestrian events, an RAF parachute display and jousting with the Knights of Nottingham. Visitors also get the chance to saddle up with a local pony club, gasp at a quad bike stunt team and kick a goal with the Leicester Tigers. 25-26 August.

CHAMPIONSHIPS Get up close to the equine action at this spectator- friendly competition in Stoneleigh Park in Warwickshire which welcomes connoisseurs and newcomers alike. With titles from Prelim to Grand Prix up for the taking, it’s sure to be an action-packed few days. 20-23 September.

SHOW LIVE TV presenter Ben Fogle opens this annual two-day show set in the fields of Hylands Park, Chelmsford. Bring the kids along for a fun-filled family day out, with events including sheep shows, horse stunts and falconry displays, plus the chance to get up close to meerkats, mongooses and pythons at the Exotic Animal Encounter. Make the most of the great outdoors with archery lessons, a paintball shooting range and bubble football matches — or simply relax and soak up the sunshine on the village green. 22-23 September.

Royal County of Berkshire Show As well as watching show jumping, falconry displays and dog skill demonstrations, visitors can meet beekeepers, sample a selection of locally produced cakes and juices, and marvel at the blooms in the flower tent. Don’t miss Stuart Barnes’ Dog and Duck show, which sees sheepdogs herding — you guessed it — ducks. 15-16 September.

Frome Agricultural & Cheese Show Enjoy a day packed with West Country entertainment. Try your hand at laser clay pigeon shooting, pick up fly fishing tips and watch show jumping events.
