Southern Drake Lodge DRAKE BAY, COSTA RICA
Perched where tropical rainforest meets the Pacific Ocean, Southern Drake Lodge is a secluded retreat just outside the main village of Agujitas in Drake Bay. Its elevated position offers sweeping ocean views and a tranquil escape, while keeping guests close to the Osa Peninsula’s extraordinary biodiversity. The boutique property combines immersion in nature with contemporary comfort. The custom-built suites are designed to make
the most of the surrounding landscape, with spacious wraparound decks, natural airflow and far-reaching views. The main lodge building houses four accommodation options: the Ocean View Penthouse Suite, with its panoramic vistas; the spacious Rainforest and Jungle Suites; and the Ocean Suite, the lodge’s premium accommodation, with a private infinity pool overlooking the jungle and sea. Most premium bedrooms have air conditioning and generous outdoor living spaces. For greater seclusion, the newly renovated Canopy Retreat sits slightly apart from the main lodge, surrounded by rainforest.
Dining is a central part of the experience, with
breakfast and dinner included in each stay. Menus draw on both local and international influences, with an emphasis on fresh, organic ingredients, bright coastal flavours and traditional Costa Rican cuisine. Elsewhere, the lodge has a large freshwater swimming pool with an outdoor bar and a firepit area for evenings under the stars. Complimentary transfers from Drake Bay airport and the main beach boat arrival points are also included. Wildlife and exotic birds are regular visitors
to the lodge grounds, while the surrounding wilderness offers plenty of opportunities for further exploration. Expert local guides lead excursions by boat into Corcovado National Park and to the waters of Caño Island Biological Reserve, as well as sport fishing trips. Guests can also explore the Térraba-Sierpe
wetlands, ride on horseback to hidden waterfalls or set out independently along the Drake Bay Hiking Trail. Closer to the lodge, experiences include guided birdwatching, evening jungle walks and bioluminescence tours.
