RC RE DON’T LOSE YOUR SOCIETY NOW SUBSCRIPTION

You might be aware of changes to the way organisations keep and use your personal data such as email addresses. For instance, if you subscribe to email alerts or news from companies, it’s likely that they will have contacted you recently to confirm that you still want to receive information from them.

This is due to the forthcoming introduction of The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) – a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). The GDPR aims to give control to citizens and residents over their personal data and to simplify the regulatory environment for international business by unifying the regulation within the EU. The GDPR was adopted on 27 April 2016 and becomes enforceable from 25 May 2018 in the UK by way of a new Data Protection Act 2018. This will apply and be enforceable in the UK regardless of Brexit.

The ESRC holds your address details in a database which we use to mail printed copies of each issue of Society Now. Because the database has been used for many years and contains addresses which have been added through different channels we now need to confirm that all current subscribers wish to continue to receive Society Now.

You can do this in three ways:

n Complete the online subscription form which will automatically add your name and address to the subscriber database: www.esrc.ac.uk/news-events-and-publications/publications/magazines/ society-now-magazine/subscription-form/

n Email societynow@esrc.ac.uk with ‘Subscribe’ in the subject line. Please include your title, name and full postal address in the email;

n Fill out and return the subscription form that is inserted in this issue of Society Now.

We do hope that you continue to subscribe to Society Now. And if you don’t have time to subscribe now, the online form will remain live indefinitely if you choose to subscribe at a later date. n
