Government’s Autumn Statement is “Step in

the Right Direction: Says Advantage and AITO COMMENTING on the government’s Autumn Statement, Julia Lo Bue-Said, Chief Executive, The Advantage Travel Partnership and Noel Josephides,

Director,

AITO (The Specialist Travel Association) jointly stated: “We welcome the key points announced as part of the Autumn statement. Anything which reduces the tax burden on businesses and puts more money back in the pockets of consumers is good news for businesses operating in the UK Outbound Travel sector and for those servicing businesses with travel management solutions. The measures announced today are a step in the right direction. We also welcome the Government’s continued support for

small business and high streets, in particular the business rates support package announced today by the Chancellor. Whilst the overall tax burden remains too high, we appreciate the fiscal constraints on the government at this point and hope that further reductions to business rates will be announced over time. Over the last 12 months, and particularly since the end of

the pandemic, we have seen a very buoyant UK Outbound Travel industry, and we are looking forward with cautious optimism to 2024 and beyond. As a vibrant industry, with a nationwide network of distribution that delivers significantly to the UK economy, we very much want to play a part in the growth agenda also announced today and will be looking to continue working closely with government to achieve this. Advantage and AITO, as UK Outbound Travel continues to engage with politicians and ministerial meetings across the spectrum in amplifying key policy asks for the sector including constituency meetings with over 50 MP across our collective membership. The political affairs work of Advantage and AITO, as UK Outbound Travel, continues at pace and we will be announcing further strategic developments in the near future.”

Denmark to Impose ‘Green Tax’ on Flights

THE Danish government has proposed a ‘green tax’ for passengers flying in the region; This is being imposed with that aim for completely green domestic routes by 2030.

The fee is set to be phased in gradually, starting in

2025, and will be dependant on flight length in the country.

With fees to be fully introduced by 2030, passengers

can be expected to pay an average of €13 per trip. By 2027, a ‘pit stop’ will be carried out and the tax will then be re-evaluated. It is believed the tax will be used to fund further

green abilities by the danish airport , and remaining funds will go towards elderly people in the country. The government proposes that approximately DKK 550 million will be targeted for measures at Danish airports and the Danish aviation sector.

Barcelona is internationally recognised, as a destination for gastronomic excellence

BARCELONA has just launched an international campaign to position the city as a global gastronomic destination of excellence.

The initiative coincides with the Michelin Gala, one of the most prominent events in the culinary world. This year, it will be held in Barcelona to unveil the new Michelin stars for the 2024 guide. The prestigious Michelin Guide promoters have recognised Barcelona for the excellence and innovation of its gastronomy offering, valuing entrepreneurial spirit, as well as the City’s chefs’ respect for tradition by utilising local products when cooking cosmopolitan and fusion cuisines. The campaign to relaunch the city as a leading gastronomic destination was promoted by Barcelona Tourism this year and features a promotional video that portrays the city as a testing ground for many young chefs and their commitment to local produce that makes haute cuisine affordable for the general public. The four pillars of the campaign, were based on the predominant values of haute cuisine in the city, are genius and innovation, respect for tradition with a view to the future, sustainability, and local and seasonal products.

There are almost 5,600 restaurants and more than 3,000 bars in Barcelona. According to the latest Tourism Activity Report, the main activity of visitors to the city is the tasting of gastronomy, with 92.4% visiting for this reason alone.
