the weight of machinery passing over the root area would be used where practicable

Where possible removal of vegetation would be timed to avoid the bird breeding season (March to August inclusive). Where tree or scrub removal during the breeding season is unavoidable, a check by the ECoW would be undertaken immediately prior to habitat removal to confirm that there are no occupied nests. Should any occupied nests be identified, an appropriate buffer zone (determined on the basis of the species concerned and the location of the nest in the context of the surrounding vegetation, but no less than 5m) would be implemented until the chicks have fledged. Additional mitigation regarding the presence of Eurasian Marsh Harriers and Cetti‟s Warbler is described in Appendix 4 to this Strategy (Ecological Mitigation Plan for the Deben Estuary SPA non-breeding birds and Schedule 1 breeding birds)

For trees in which bat roosts have been identified or which are identified as having bat roost potential, then the measures set out in the bat mitigation section would be followed

No materials or vehicles, whether temporary or otherwise, shall be stored under crown spreads of trees

In addition to the details above it is proposed to implement an early programme of extensive landscape mitigation on-site nearby to the Converter Station Site. This would constitute „structure‟ planting in the form of mixed native woodland comprising both trees and shrubs. Whilst this planting would form a landscaping screen it would also provide ecological mitigation and enhancement opportunities. It is also expected that planting under the terms of the s106/111 agreement would commence as soon as reasonably practicable

Where the removal of woodland, scrub or trees is anticipated to have significant residual visual impacts, or impact on Barbestelle bats (see 3.6 below), because one or more pass by this species has been recorded, in addition to the mitigation identified in the preceding sections, these hedgerows have been reviewed and special engineering measures have been considered in order to further reduce significant residual visual impacts. Engineering measures considered include a change to the typical trench sections, alteration of construction methodology and machinery which would enable the open cut trenches and haul road to be micro
