A ground-breaking study – conducted by Selling Power and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst – revealed the top traits of high achievers (we refer to these folks as “Superachievers”) when compared with average achievers. The Superachievers in this study share some common characteristics. Most came from modest backgrounds and rose to higher levels of suc- cess than other members of their families, contemporaries, or friends. All became wealthy, influential, respected, and, as a group, were also more satisfied with work, marriage, and their lives in general. The ma- jority of these Superachievers became successful business executives; others, leading figures in the fields of entertainment, medicine, sports, education, and science. All reached superior economic wealth. Although many Superachievers share the “secrets” of their success, very little is known about what processes of thought enable these people to reach very high levels of success. This study identified what makes the dif- ference between the way high achievers and average achievers think and respond to failure, stress, and everyday disappointments.
