hen dreaming of Barbados, powder-white sands, crystal-clear waters
and warm sunshine might spring to mind – and for good reason. This tropical island, nestled in the southeast of the Caribbean Sea, is famed for its picturesque, palm-studded beaches, which are bathed in sunshine year-round. But even if some
much-needed R&R comes hand in hand with the laid-back island atmosphere, there’s also plenty to do for those keen

to stay active and explore beyond the beach. With a landscape that
combines limestone caves and lush foliage with rolling hills, Barbados lends itself to a wide array of adventurous activities, all set against postcard- perfect panoramas.
UNDERGROUND ADVENTURES As the electric tram slowly journeys into Harrison’s Cave, the only noise to be heard is the sound of fresh water flowing through streams and hurtling
down waterfalls. Some 49 metres underground, this Barbados landmark is home to a host of natural phenomena – stalagmites rise from the ground and stalactites hang overhead, so perfectly crystallised they almost look unreal, interspersed by towering columns formed where the stalagmites and stalactites meet, and pools of clear emerald water. The most popular way
to explore this limestone marvel is on a tram tour, which traverses the impressive mile-and-a-half-
long cave system. The tram transports visitors down to the depths of the cave, where they can disembark and explore on foot for an up-close look at the stone structures and the chance to run their hands through one of the waterfalls. For those seeking
something a little more adrenaline-pumping, there’s the option to crawl along a network of hidden passages and navigate shallow waterways to gain a unique perspective on what is one of the must-visit attractions in Barbados.
