The best of your letters, comments and social media this week EasyJet: Threat to operators
Story: EasyJet Holidays boss explains decision not to offer price parity to agents I know many people are getting excited that easyJet Holidays will be bookable via independent agents but I have mixed emotions about it. Without price parity, this could be a further nail in the coffin for wonderfully supportive operators like Classic Collection and Prestige. We all know how they struggle to compete with prices offered by Jet2holidays when Jet2 flights are used. It will be the same with easyJet Holidays and easyJet flights. I fear this will mean some good operators will disappear. Should the consortia be jumping over themselves to work with easyJet Holidays? They will argue they need to get the best deals for their members so that they in turn can survive. No easy decisions. Neil Basnett, director, Holiday Inspirations
Julie Franklin @jfranklin_skye Hotelplan Woohoo . . . just landed on my mat [pictured]! It’s like a little piece of normal. Thank you @travelweekly @Lucy_Huxley for bringing me my coffee break back in these stressful times.
Inghams Agents @InghamsAgents Thanks @travelweekly for keeping us going through this challenging time . . . digital is fab but we love a proper mag to read with a cuppa.
STA: Agency inspired my career
Story: STA Travel UK ceases trading A very sad day. I booked my round-the-world trip with STA in 2006 at the Byres Road shop in Glasgow – I was amazed at how knowledgeable the staff were and it led me into a career in travel. My heart goes out to all the staff affected. Heather Colbourn

travelweekly.co.uk @travelweekly travelweeklyuk @travelweeklyuk 27 AUGUST 2020 27 OTAs: Should refund
Story: Abta to write to members over FCO advice refunds dispute It is incredibly tough for OTAs like On the Beach and Loveholidays, and in part I sympathise. However, the commoditisation of travel and wafer-thin margins lead to significant financial exposure in anything other than boom times, and so the refusal to refund raises red flags. Aside from the incredible brand damage this is creating for themselves, they are impacting the reputation of the sector as a whole and therefore should refund customers who are unable to travel as a direct result of FCO advice. They will have done so previously and should do so now. Return4Travel
Andy Freeth @Andy_Freeth Flexi Reps; Inspire My Holiday Great to see more travel retailers opening their doors [Midcounties reopens 14 former Central England Co-op branches]. There appears to be plenty of demand for 2021 and beyond.
Tailor Made: ‘Sense’
Story: Tailor Made Travel to close 15 stores in autumn hibernation plans This makes a lot of sense. I think a lot of our industry will need to hibernate to survive winter. Wayne Darrock
