Mountains
Canada is home to mountains far and wide, though it tends to be the Rockies that garner the most attention. While this mountain range is home to hulking gems like Mount Robson and Mount Columbia, there are plenty of others to explore, from the Coast Mountains to the St Elias Mountains. The latter, in the Yukon Territory, is home to Canada’s highest peak, Mount Logan, which rises to a lofty 5,956 metres.

Did you know Canada is home to the second-oldest National Park system in the world? Most visitors head to Jasper and Banff, famed for their crystalline lakes and snow-capped forests, but there’s a wealth of lesser-known parks to be explored elsewhere. Try a coastal national park like the Gros Morne National Park (pictured) in Newfoundland and Labrador, with its soaring fjords, barren cliffs, beaches and bogs. Or, head inwards and visit Riding Mountain National Park in the Prairie Mountain region of Manitoba or Toronto’s Rouge National Urban Park.
Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut are all classed as polar regions. One of the best ways to explore is by ship, as the landscape doesn’t lend itself well to roads and getting from A to B by plane can be costly. Many of the packaged Arctic cruises anchor up at Inuit communities and include sea experiences to see wildlife like narwhals, polar bears and walrus. Diving experiences can also be arranged.
