The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Refunds: CAA so slow

Story: Major airlines owe ‘substantial backlog’ of refunds The CAA launched a review of this in May and has only just concluded that airlines aren’t refunding passengers in an acceptable timeframe. Most travel agents could have told the CAA that in a few minutes! Meanwhile, it’s not just the airlines but also cruise companies and many tour operators that have left agents to hang out to dry with upset clients. Mike Frank, Travel Counsellors

Lists: Tough job for agents

Story: Government ‘safe’ country list attacked as confusing Agents will have to be on top of their game to keep up with all the latest developments in regard to certain countries’ requirements. The UK government may consider some countries safe, but in a lot of cases it is not reciprocal. Patrick Doyle

Lobbying: Let’s just back Abta

Story: Industry associations hit back at quarantine criticism Can we just back Abta for once. The more we divide our voice, the less it will be heard. Steve Endacott

Andy Freeth @Andy_Freeth If Only If ever in the history of travel and tourism there was a time to use a travel agent, it has to be now! The chaos caused by our government, the DFT and FCO is so tricky to navigate. Use an expert that will be all over the detail to ensure you have a safe and enjoyable holiday.

Safe travel: ‘Shambles’ Story: Calls grow for clarity over ‘safe travel’ lists I’d be surprised if this materialises. The UK government has released the initial list with all the trumpets and drums to give the impression that they are listening to, and trying to help, our industry and the UK public. Nothing could be further from the truth. And if they release a ‘correct’ list, it’ll prove how shambolic their level of understanding of other countries’ rules, requirements and expectations has been. Matt Griffiths

rachel o’reilly @rorpr Kuoni Bridges, corridors, traffic lights – or just places you can go to and places you can’t just yet. Whatever, it’s the beginning of the recovery for travel.
