Brexit: Loss of soft power Direct debit: Payment issues
Story: Brexit ‘massively damaged’ inbound sector and UK reputation The impact of Brexit on language schools in the UK is rarely mentioned but it has been enormous and many have closed as a result. That is not only an economic loss but also a frittering away of significant soft power. About the only industry which has seen any growth since Brexit is the production of red tape. Paul Sawbridge
Story: Trade hails instalment payments The issue with direct debit payments is the legal need to pass the monies to the operator upon receipt and not sit on it for your own cashflow. That is fine for agents such as Hays Travel which self-package, or if you operate a trust account to ringfence it all, but it’s potentially a legal minefield for run-of-the-mill agencies. Collecting and accounting for dribs and drabs of monies is also time-consuming for operators. Peter Cookson
