Swan Hellenic plots calls at destinations off the beaten track

Phil Davies

Swan Hellenic will visit 34 off-the-beaten-track destinations – including many that are not reached by other expedition cruise lines – in 2025-26. SH Diana will make its

maiden call at Hermanus, in South Africa, in November 2025 before returning in 2026. The town, which is southeast

of Cape Town, has never been visited by a cruise company, according to Swan Hellenic. In Brazil, SH Vega will visit

Trancoso, Itacare, Morro de Sao Paulo and the uninhabited Abrolhos Archipelago, with more destinations set to follow in 2026. The line claims that eight

other destinations featured in its 2025-26 itineraries aren’t visited by any other cruise line. These include Vaeroy in

Norway’s Lofoten Islands; Donana National Park, in Spain; Elmina, in Ghana; Baie des Tortues, Loango National Park and Mayumba, in

Gabon; and Ilha Baia dos Tigres, in Angola. Other lesser-visited destinations

that Swan Hellenic will visit include Kalso, in the Faroe Islands; Kinsale, in Ireland; Batz-sur-Mer, in France; Pantelleria island, in Italy; Datça, in Turkey; the Bijagos Archipelago, in Guinea Bissau; and Aldabara Atoll, in the Seychelles. The expedition line has also

unveiled a series of nine Explore Space at Sea voyages for 2025. A scientist from the

US-based Seti Institute research organisation will be on board each cruise to provide insights on astronomy, astrophysics, astrobiology and planetary science. They will also accompany

passengers on expeditions. swanhellenic.com

Warming winter festivals

When winter sets in, Canada transforms into a snow-dusted wonderland of icy landscapes and festive celebrations perfect for a magical holiday.

In Canada’s capital Ottawa, Winterlude is a dazzling event that is held over three weeks each February. Clients can enjoy the ice sculptures, live musicians and plenty of hearty Canadian food, or try skating and even bed racing along the Rideau Canal.

Farther east, the Carnaval de Quebec is Canada’s largest, oldest festival and hosts lively parades, sports events and dance parties. Families can seek out Bonhomme (pictured), the fun and friendly carnival mascot, and admire his incredible ice palace.

In southern Ontario, suggest clients visit the Winter Festival of Lights between November and January to see millions of colourful lights illuminate Niagara Falls. Clients can grab a warm drink and food to enjoy during the display – and kids will love the hot chocolate trail, offering more than 30 flavours.

And in Winnipeg, the Festival du Voyageur celebrates Canada’s French and Indigenous Métis culture as well as its historical fur trade. Admire snow sculptures and meet Fort Gibraltar’s historical characters, accompanied by live music and tasty Manitoban cuisine, for an unforgettable winter experience in Canada.
