The best of your letters, comments and social media this week Furlough: Waive taxes and rates
Story: ‘Everything on the table’ for travel firms as end of furlough looms Surely the government could help recapitalisation of travel agencies by waiving taxes and rates for a year and lifting the enforcement of rent payments to commercial landlords. After all, if these business go under the government and landlords will receive no future monies, so a temporary reprieve to get the liquidity back into these businesses would be an investment worth making. Simon Mennens
I hope bosses reward those who stayed loyal and accepted pay cuts, once the industry recovers. While staff put on reduced hours are the lucky ones in some senses, on the other hand they are the ones sustaining businesses for less money than they are owed. Let’s hope they are recognised for doing so. Frank Brewer

So good to be back out meeting travel friends. We are a fun-loving industry that has been stifled since March 2020. The smiles were back yesterday @tiptoterri
Protest: Let’s go
Having seen the recent TV pictures of the climate demonstration in London, I suggest that if the travel industry has another protest, we call it Extinction of the Travel Industry. We can march around London, block roads and shout whatever we want without restriction! Might have to enlist a few grannies to carry placards! That said, the travel business is finally looking a little more positive, but I echo many who say it has ceased to be fun with all the restrictions in place. I feel more like a Covid PCR travel information centre than a travel agent. Alistair McLean, owner, Dorking Travel

Another week has passed without any action from @RishiSunak to save the travel industry. It needs sector-specific support or 100,000 more jobs will be lost this autumn.
Green list: ‘Bottom of agenda’ Support: Jobs at risk
Story: Airline chiefs slam limited additions to green list and none to amber
Allana-Marie Athanasiou: The industry and airlines keep appealing and it’s not getting very far. Today’s review was lousy – again. The travel industry is obviously at the bottom of the government’s agenda.

Story: Just 0.4% of fully-vaccinated travellers test positive for Covid Diane Healey: Traffic lights, tests – it’s a joke! This summer is gone. Furlough for staff ends next month, with no sign of any end to the incoherent travel policy. So many jobs at risk.
