someone who helped them out early in their career, sparked the inspiration for a dish or supported them through a tough time. For chef Adriana Cavita, it was the cookery of her grandmother, mother and women in the indigenous com- munities of Mexico that formed the backbone of her London restaurant Cavita. “Meeting all these women in differ- ent regions, they just inspired me so much,” she tells us on page 22. This ethos of women in hospitality supporting one another is also coming through in other areas of the industry. As we hear on page 26, Queena Wong has taken trade bodies to task about protect- ing female sommeliers from sexism and harassment and built a network of almost 1,000 women in wine through her Curious Vines network. And while women make up nearly 56%

W

of the hospitality workforce, they are still underrepresented at a senior level in hotels. On page 18, hoteliers offer their advice on how companies can better sup- port female team members to reach the top. It’s clear that networking can be hugely beneficial to those looking to advance their careers. On 6 March, The Caterer will host its first Inspiring Women lunch in Lon- don, where speakers including chef Ruth Hansom will offer advice to women working in hospitality. We hope to run several similar events this year, so do get in touch if you are inter- ested in attending.
