7JÒ 20 See the sand dunes of NCOKDKÎ

As you stroll across the Namib desert in the early morning sun, it’s impossible not to be awestruck by the vast wall of spectacular orange revealing itself on the horizon. The Sossusvlei sand dunes in southwest Namibia are an astonishing feat of nature, home to sharp ridges of sand that rise effortlessly from the ground to heights of more than 300 metres, following centuries of sculpting by the desert’s tough winds. This is a place that personifies epic isolation – the main roads are almost 200 miles away and the majority of accommodation can only be reached by a 40-mile journey on a solitary bumpy track, but the expedition is worth it simply to marvel at this otherworldly landscape.

Known for its stunning vistas, from the towering sand dunes of Sossusvlei to the wildlife-rich Etosha National Park, Namibia offers a unique blend of desert, savannah and coastal ecosystems. Call our sister brand, Incredible Journeys, for travel inspiration.
