Crittall’s thermally broken T60 – a 21st Century solution

S

teel window and doors manufacturer Crittall are reporting a surge in demand for its T60 range. T60 is an innovative, thermally broken steel window and door system that combines the aesthetics of the company’s traditional and much-loved fenestration solutions with 21st century levels of thermal and acoustic performance. The range incorporates an advanced, high-density polyurethane thermal barrier isolator, which facilitates the use of high-performance double- and triple-glazing up to 37mm wide. This ensures that T60 windows and doors exceed the demands of the Building Regulations, while remaining almost identical – in visual terms – to Crittall’s traditional rolled steel profiles. By employing thermal break technology, T60 can provide

contemporary comfort

levels in environments where traditional steel windows may have previously

struggled.

Equally importantly for architects and their clients, the windows and doors retain slim

sightlines, maximising both visual appeal and daylighting. Fitted with high-performance insulating glass, T60 will provide a whole window U-value as low as 0.8 W /m2

K.

Sound reduction over 40dB can be achieved using laminated sound-reducing glass. Each frame is fully welded ensuring strength and durability. As specifiers would expect from Crittall, T60 complies with the latest EN performance standards relating to air filtration, water permeability and structural wind-resistance.

The functionality of T60 is further boosted by a wide range of opening configurations comprising side, top and bottom; inward or outward; vertical and horizontal pivot (for the classic warehouse aesthetic); and double- leaf inward or outward opening doors. Tilt and turn options, together with reversible pivots and folding-sliding formats, will be unveiled later this year. T60’s

visually clean and slender design means that it is ideally suited to ADF09_Crittall_External Envelope - Doors & Windows_HPAdv.indd 1 01376 530800 www.crittall-windows.co.uk 05/09/2022 10:49 LISTEN HERE

both newbuild and restoration projects. Traditional aesthetics ensure that the profile can be specified with confidence on listed buildings and projects in conservation areas.

Blue Chip Project

A new building in the grounds of historic Trinity College, Oxford, illustrates how T60 helps marry 21st Century environmental performance seamlessly with traditional aesthetic requirements. Crittall’ s T60 thermally broken steel windows make a major contribution to the Levine Building’s sustainability credentials.

Senior makes waves at new development A

new luxury residential apartment scheme in Southend-on-Sea in Essex has combined a classic Art Deco design with

a modern aluminium fenestration package, featuring doors, windows and curtain walling solutions from Senior Architectural Systems. The new Cliff town Shore residential

development boasts a stunning location close to both Southend-on-Sea’s seafront and the nearby Conservation Area, which encompasses some of the coastal city’s most celebrated local architecture including the 1912 built Cliff Lift funicular railway. Taking inspiration from the Art Deco style of the neighbouring buildings and the beauty of the natural landscape, the undulating ‘waves’ of the white concrete framed building have been further accentuated by the curved installation and slim sightlines of Senior’s thermally-effi cient SF52 aluminium curtain wall system. The stunning views from the individual

apartments have been framed using Senior’s patented PURe® tilt and turn aluminium windows, with PURe® SLIDE aluminium doors providing access to the outdoor terraces. The thermal effi ciency achieved by Senior’s PURe® aluminium system has been further enhanced with the use of energy-effi cient triple glazing. The main entrance to the development

features Senior’s aluminium PURe® Commercial Doors to provide safe and secure access. As well as contributing to a more energy-effi cient building envelope, with all of Senior’s aluminium windows and doors comfortably meeting the new lower U-value targets of Part L of the Building Regulations, the use of the PURe® system also off ers improved acoustic performance. Owing to the coastal location of the

development, Senior’s aluminium fenestration systems were powder-coated in marine grade Matt Black to off er additional protection from the elements and provide an attractive contrast with the white building design. The installation of aluminium brise soleil, also powder-coated to match the aluminium windows, is both an attractive and practical feature, and will provide solar shading and protection against solar gain. Designed by LAP Architects and built by

Cura Construction, all of Senior’s aluminium fenestration solutions were fabricated and installed by supply chain partner Glass & General. Set on the former site of a pub and a fi sh and chip shop, the stunning new
