After driving around looking at different homes and trawling the internet or ideas we cae up wit our list o ust aes. We teaed up wit a great local arcitect uke trange and e sketced wat we wanted first tie round incorporating a i o traditional features with a modern twist tat would still leae us in keeping wit our surroundings.


After a few tweaks to the design


internall we suitted our application in eruar  and to our surprise te plans were approed witin eigt weeks wit no proles or aendents needed. At the end of August we broke ground earking on an arcaeological dig. However, with nothing found we were able to move straight on to digging the footings and removing the oersite concrete sla. is part o te proect appened so ast and progress was good. It wasn’t long before the ricklaers arried on site and ad te first ew courses down read or us to get te lock and ea oor on. e weather was on our side, it being dry and war into ctoer ut ten winter it.


A LONG WINTER is is were tings slowed down since November we have battled with the weater ro week to week. espite high winds, torrential rain and freezing teperatures work did carr on during the winter, but not at the rate we would ae oped or. We ae spent an nights lying awake listening to the rain oping it doesnt cause daage to an work already done. Fast forward to now and the weather as finall turned ater te wettest winter or ears. We are ust aout to coplete te roo and are preparing or cladding and installation o windows so we can get te scaolding down. nternall we are preparing or screed and aout


to start first fiing te pluing and electrical installation. Wit te long drawn out winter behind us we are now ale to get reall stuck in and we are reall oping to eet our deadline o ristas . To date, this has been a massive callenge alongside an alread us liestle wit our cildren and a dog. iing in two static caraans or alost tree ears as presented its own callenges ut te process oerall is er rewarding.  adice to anone else taking on suc a proect is wateer ou tink oure going to spend ou need to add a iniu o  or unoreseen costs. econdl price ceck everything and don’t be afraid to try and negotiate a deal – if you rely on someone else sourcing our aterials ten its going to cost ou  ore.
