After driving around looking at different homes and trawling the internet or ideas we cae up wit our list o ust aes. We teaed up wit a great local arcitect uke trange and e sketced wat we wanted first tie round incorporating a i o traditional features with a modern twist tat would still leae us in keeping wit our surroundings.
After a few tweaks to the design
internall we suitted our application in eruar and to our surprise te plans were approed witin eigt weeks wit no proles or aendents needed. At the end of August we broke ground earking on an arcaeological dig. However, with nothing found we were able to move straight on to digging the footings and removing the oersite concrete sla. is part o te proect appened so ast and progress was good. It wasn’t long before the ricklaers arried on site and ad te first ew courses down read or us to get te lock and ea oor on. e weather was on our side, it being dry and war into ctoer ut ten winter it.
A LONG WINTER is is were tings slowed down since November we have battled with the weater ro week to week. espite high winds, torrential rain and freezing teperatures work did carr on during the winter, but not at the rate we would ae oped or. We ae spent an nights lying awake listening to the rain oping it doesnt cause daage to an work already done. Fast forward to now and the weather as finall turned ater te wettest winter or ears. We are ust aout to coplete te roo and are preparing or cladding and installation o windows so we can get te scaolding down. nternall we are preparing or screed and aout
to start first fiing te pluing and electrical installation. Wit te long drawn out winter behind us we are now ale to get reall stuck in and we are reall oping to eet our deadline o ristas . To date, this has been a massive callenge alongside an alread us liestle wit our cildren and a dog. iing in two static caraans or alost tree ears as presented its own callenges ut te process oerall is er rewarding. adice to anone else taking on suc a proect is wateer ou tink oure going to spend ou need to add a iniu o or unoreseen costs. econdl price ceck everything and don’t be afraid to try and negotiate a deal – if you rely on someone else sourcing our aterials ten its going to cost ou ore.
